There are two primary methods of Space Travel: Warp and Conventional travel AKA (Slow Boating).

Warping[]

Ships can be equipped with Warp Drives that allow them to travel at exceptionally high speed . These engines require Warp Cells, which deplete when warping[1]. The formula for cell usage is:

Warp cells needed = Mass (in tonnes) x Distance (in SU) x 0.00025

Example: A small hauler with 200kl of hematite weighs about 1kt. Thades is about 150su away. The trip will cost 38 cells to warp.

A warping as always done to a destination, usually, a planet or moon. The craft will automatically come to a halt when initiating warp, and come to a full stop at the end again. The end point will be within the safe zone of the planet or moon and is therefor 100% safe.

Alternatively the player (or his organisation) can install a warp beacon on their space station and then warp to that beacon. It is currently not possible to give rights to warp to a beacon, meaning the player must be in the organisation which owns the station. The warp will end multiple kilometres away from the beacon.

Slow boating[]

Slowboating is a player coined word for any travels that one could warp, but decided to travel conventionally for various reasons.

The most obvious reason is to not have to use the warp cells. Missions issued by the game (Aphelia) do not allow usage of the warp drive.

New players should be aware that the direct connection between two planets, often called "the pipe" can be checked by players using a cheap small ship (warp shuttle) with a radar. If you want to avoid being shot down, don’t try to sneak down the main road!
